Challenge

A music practice app can easily become a collection of isolated utilities. The product challenge was to connect rhythm, tuning, local audio, YouTube references, recording, and bookmarks into a repeatable practice workflow that feels useful during real rehearsal, not just as a feature list.

02

Solution

I shaped Band Mate around dedicated practice screens: Metronome, Tuner, Practice Player, YouTube Practice, Bookmarks, and Settings. Each screen handles a specific practice job, while bookmarks and state restoration connect those jobs into saved sessions that users can return to.

03

Impact

Band Mate turns scattered rehearsal utilities into a practical mobile practice console, keeping timing, tuning, looping, reference playback, recording, and saved practice states inside one mobile workflow.

Practice System

A rehearsal console that changes with the job.

Band Mate feels stronger when the page behaves like the app: one focused practice surface at a time, connected by saved session states.

Metronome

Set the pulse first.

BPM, meter, note division, tap tempo, swing, fade-out, and tempo trainer live in one focused rhythm surface.
02

Tuner

Tune without leaving practice.

The chromatic tuner keeps pitch detection, cents feedback, A4 reference, and presets close to the rehearsal flow.
03

Practice Player

Slow down the difficult part.

Local audio practice handles speed, pitch, A/B loop markers, and recording-oriented rehearsal without changing tools.
04

YouTube Practice

Use references like practice material.

YouTube URLs become controllable practice sessions with speed changes, loop points, and saved states.
05

Bookmarks

Return to useful setups.

Bookmarks are saved practice states, not simple favorites, so a musician can reopen a rhythm, player, or reference setup later.

Saved Sessions

Practice should be repeatable, not rebuilt.

Bookmarks, settings, recording, and restored screen states turn individual tools into a session system.

Recording

Capture practice takes while staying inside the session.

Settings

Language, theme, haptics, knob control, click sound, and recording preferences are kept out of the way.

Session restoration

Metronome, local audio, and YouTube states can be restored instead of rebuilt.
