Block puzzles usually mean falling pieces, a countdown, hearts that run out and a game-over screen. BlockBloom keeps the satisfying part, clearing rows, and removes the pressure. Nothing falls by itself, you place each block when you are ready, and a finished round gives you a woodland friend for a little 3D forest of your own. It is a puzzle you can put down mid-round and pick up again.

What it does

Design choices

Placed by hand, never falling

The original brief was a toddler block toy with no time pressure. Blocks are dragged down by the player and join only when released while touching the floor or another block, with a tap to turn. Ground-up gravity and a hint reading drag down, tap to turn replaced a timer.

Easier shapes in the bag

Beyond the seven classic tetrominoes the game adds four easy shapes: a dot, a pair, a straight three and a small corner. Pieces come from a shuffled bag so the same shape rarely repeats, and the board is a wide seven columns by eleven rows so fingers can place blocks comfortably.

Rewards instead of scores

Each round needs eight cleared rows, and clearing rows brings out friends hidden in blocks. The Forest collection holds 16 rewards, six animals and ten decorations. Release builds have no hearts, no energy and no waiting gates, and a fresh install starts with an empty forest so everything is earned.

Honest about what is not ready

Code holds six themes, but the shipping build opens only Forest. Ocean and the rest are marked Coming Soon, and a debug flag can never unlock them in release. Score is local with no online ranking, and the store text says the in-app interface is English.

How it's built

Flutter game, three.js forest

The puzzle, animation and UI are Flutter. The My Forest world is a three.js scene shown in a web view, so the player can rotate, zoom, find collected items and move decorations. The three.js licence ships in the app assets, and progress is saved on the device with local storage.

Soft landings, real sounds

Blocks squash when they land, towers wobble, and clears ripple left to right with notes from an eight-note set. The sounds reuse the CC0 recordings catalogued for RattleBox, such as xylophone, kalimba and chimes, with 18 forest sound files mapped to events like grab, rotate, join and clear.

Animals that keep their feet down

The project's art rules require ground animals to keep foot contact, soft shadows and real stride rather than sliding. A 2D forest rig covers species such as rabbit, fox, hedgehog, deer and squirrel, and unit tests check foot lock and rabbit hop, backing visual review of the engine renders.

Private and tested

There are no ads, analytics SDKs, accounts or online ranking, and no camera, microphone, contacts or precise location. The repository has 24 unit-test files and 16 integration-test files, including release-flag tests that confirm shipping builds expose only Forest.
